In what you could call it a big change, NIT and IIEST has decided to waive the tuition fees for physically disabled students of Mtech courses including those of Scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribes. Additionally, the union minister has already directed the colleges to manage a recruitment drive for 2200 faculty positions that remain unfilled till date as soon as possible. For speeding up the process, the ministry has already given approval for the tenure tracking system.

The Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ was attending a meeting that was also attended by the chairpersons of board of governors of NITs as well as Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) as well as National Institute of Technology, Science Education and Research (NITSER). Even though the most alarming point to be discussed at the meeting was about the shortage of faculty’s in the Institutes.

As per the ministry directives the objective of the recruitment drive is to fill in the vacancies so as to improve the rankings of NITs ultimately. The deadline for filling the vacant seats is set by the HRD ministry to December of the year.

Well, the HRD ministry believes that these steps will positively improve the performances of the NIT’s and take their rankings northwards too.
